The Cots 4 Tots story
The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the Marine Corps toy drive. It provides financial, advisory, administrative, logistical and promotional support to local Toys for Tots Coordinators and a variety of other services that the Marine Corps cannot provide. It also provides educational and informational materials to the public and assists national corporations to include information about Toys for Tots into their paid advertisements, and conducts an annual program of public education and publicity.
The Cots 4 Tots story began in 2010 with a fundraising appeal for Bristol's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at St Michael's Hospital. Since its inception, the charity has raised tens of thousands of pounds to support families of premature or sick babies in the West of England and South Wales. Its mission is to provide families with accommodation facilities and state-of-the-art equipment for the NICU.
Cots for Tots House provides an "home away from home" for families who are being treated in a hospital. It is located right next to the NICU and allows parents to stay close to their baby. Since 2012 the charity has helped more than 2,100 families to stay in the home.
Families who stay at Cots for Tots House can be reassured that they are not alone. They are part of a community of parents who are going through the same issues as they do, and they can help each one another out. They also have access to a wide range of facilities that will ensure their stay is as comfortable as is possible.
The charity also supports an artist who visits the NICU in order to reduce stress and pain for both parents and their babies. Music therapy can reduce the amount of time needed to treat children, thereby saving hospitals both time and money. The therapist uses specially-designed resonant devices that are tuned to certain frequencies and play soothing tunes for babies. Resonant instruments can also relax mothers and fathers.
